I often hear it from my friends, and read it on social media – people complaining about Monday being the worst day of the week. So what is it about Monday that turns us into grumpy unsociable moaners?
Is it that the weekend is not long enough, and we don’t have the time to unwind? Or do Mondays have this special bad energy about them? Why do we feel so weary of them? How can we survive Monday?
The problem is that although we take time to relax on our weekends, we fail to prepare ourselves for the week ahead mentally or physically. What can we do to make our Monday more enjoyable, productive and fun? How can we survive Monday?
Survive Monday – and make it a breeze
- Plan for the week ahead – before it starts. What would you like to achieve? Even if it means just doing your house chores, looking after children – write it down. What’s on your To-Do list?
- Plan for the day ahead – before it starts. Plan your Monday on Sunday. This creates a working mindset, and prepares you for the day, putting you in charge of it, rather than the day crushing you with negative energy or rude awakening from the weekend.
- Make sure that Sunday is an alcohol-free day. There is nothing worse than waking up to work with a hangover. If you have to celebrate/ relax with a drink – do it on Friday and Saturday.
- Drink lots of water. A dehydrated body means a lack of focus and concentration, as well as headaches. Take water with you to work.
- Have a quiet “focus time” in the morning. Sit quietly for 5-10 minutes and think about the day ahead, focus on what is important and needs to be done first of all. Think about the bigger picture. Why are you doing it all? Why is it important? What inspires you?
- Have a nutritious breakfast – oats with fruit and nuts (if you can eat nuts of course), a glass of orange juice will charge you up with energy for the day. If you don’t like cereals, eggs and a piece of wholemeal toast is a very nutritious alternative. Add some ham to it, and a glass of juice. If you have to drink coffee, avoid instant varieties.
- Take some snacks with you – dried fruit and nuts would give you energy in between your meals, and help you avoid energy crashes.
- Listen to your favourite music when you travel to work (or at home if this is where your workplace is).
- Avoid arguments – they sap your own energy and do nothing to resolve the issue. Be calm and constructive at resolving conflicts.
- Meditate to calm down your mind and free it of bad thoughts.
- Plan your breaks. If you are at work and the only break you have is at lunchtime, find a way to switch off for a few minutes, and relax your mind.
- Plan your rewards for big tasks completed for the day and the week. What do you enjoy doing most? Remember what they say about all work and no play.
- Walk a lot – to and from the station/ bus stop. Exercise is excellent for stress relief!
- Go to bed early in order to have at least 8 hours of sleep. Slow down before bedtime. Avoid meals for at least 2 hours before bedtime. If you can – have a short walk in the evening.
- If you suffer from insomnia or just find it difficult to relax and go to sleep, have a warm magnesium bath before bedtime. Just add 300-350g of magnesium chloride salt to very warm water and enjoy. If you cannot take a bath, another very calming thing is a footbath (two handfuls of salt – 100-150g of salt to about 5 litres of hot water).
- Have a Far Infrared Magnesium Wrap at least once a week. Learn how to do the wraps at home.
- If a bath or foot bath is not an option, apply magnesium oil to the body about half an hour before bedtime. Let it dry. Sleep with it on. The salt will make the sheets a bit sticky, so you may want to use something on top and to cover yourself with.
To sum it up, we shouldn’t aim just to survive Monday. When our body and mind are rested and fresh and we have set goals for the week ahead, Monday can turn from a chore to a day of productivity and excitement.

Take a look at my books where I describe how minerals – salts, muds and clays – help us heal. They are some of the best remedies for our joints. The resorts where people go to get help with arthritis are the most solid proof that they work.

Hey Galina,
I love the look of your new blog. Although when it first loaded, for a second I got a screen full of bright green until it settled down.
It’s great to see you moving forward with your pet niche, and I love this post with all it’s great tidbits of useful info.
Fortunately for me, everyday is a sunny day, although I should do more planning – I make that concession.
Keep up the good work Galina. Your diligence is really showing now 🙂
All the best,
Crocodile Dundee
Hi Paul (aka Corcodile Dundee) 🙂
Thank you for stopping by to comment on my blog and your nice comments – really appreciate it! I need to look into the background issue and see how I can fix it. I love writing about health, and you are right – it is my pet niche. Hoping to share a lot more of what I’ve learned over the years. And lucky you for having the sun all to yourself – it certainly helps to feel good, Monday or not. We are not so spoiled here at the moment.
Take care, and thank you again! 🙂
Galina
Fab looking new blog Galina – well done.

Hi Sue, thank you very much for you kind words – I appreciate it! It did take me a bit of time to set it up, and I am looking forward to doing what I love most – which is writing about matters relating to health and wellbeing. Best wishes, Galina x
I think you’ve covered pretty much most bases here, Galina! The only additions I can think of are
– set your intention for the day when you wake up, along with writing out your goals
– read some positive material when waking (probably before going to bed too!)
– give someone you love a hug before you leave the house (or go to your home office) – even if it’s your pet 🙂
Hi Tamsin,
Thank you so much for your comment and tips – wonderful additions, how could I forget! A hug to a loved one is really sets the day on the right note <3
Love this Galina! I especially loved the last paragraph and couldn’t agree more. Thank you!! <3
Thank you so much for your kind comment Teena! It means a lot to me <3
