We hear a lot about magnesium, and advice from natural health practitioners about the importance of magnesium supplementation. There are loads of articles about it on the web. However, do we really know why it plays such an important role in maintaining our health – and life? What is it about magnesium that singles it out from other minerals?
In this article, I will try to summarise why it is that we need is so much – what it does for us and what happens when we don’t get enough of it. For those of you who don’t know what magnesium oil is – it is, in fact, a highly saturated magnesium chloride solution, which is a salt, and not an oil, but which feels like oil when applied on the skin – hence the name.
12 Reasons You Need to Start Using Magnesium Oil
1. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in the human body, taking part in over 350 reactions. This means that magnesium deficiency has the potential to disrupt all of these processes and result in disease.
2. Magnesium is a powerhouse of the cell. It is needed for energy production to make the cell work – take in and process nutrients, water and oxygen, remove waste (detoxification). This also ensures that our body produces enough energy for us to stay alive, and go about our everyday lives. Without sufficient magnesium, energy does not get produced, and body processes slow down. This can lead to all sorts of problems, including weight gain, fatigue, and a large number of other health conditions.
3. Magnesium is needed by the body to metabolise sugar and plays a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Without it, the body develops resistance to insulin, and sugars cannot get metabolised. This can lead to type 2 diabetes.
4. It maintains bone health. Contrary to popular belief, it is not just calcium that is needed for the bones. Magnesium and calcium work together, and one cannot get absorbed without the other. So calcium without magnesium remains in the blood and does not get absorbed by the bones, which can lead to osteoporosis and other diseases of the bones.
5. Magnesium keeps our blood vessels supple and free from atheromas – calcium and fat-based plaques which get deposited in blood vessels when the body becomes deficient in magnesium. It helps prevent atherosclerosis and potentially – heart attacks and strokes.
6. Magnesium helps to thin the blood and relax blood vessels. This helps to prevent blood clot formation and blood pressure problems.
7. Being one of the most powerful natural relaxants, magnesium helps to prevent muscle tension, cramps, and muscle fatigue.
8. The heart needs magnesium to keep healthy. When a heart attack happens, magnesium chloride is used by medical doctors to keep up the blood supply to it and prevent death.
9. Typically, magnesium is deficient in people engaged in regular sports activities, the elderly, pregnant women, cancer sufferers, children, people who have been ill for a long time, diabetes sufferers, those who abuse alcohol. They are at a much higher risk of developing health problems which are related to magnesium deficiency.
10. Magnesium is a natural anti-inflammatory. It also plays a very important role in pain relief, bringing almost instant relaxation to body tissues.
11. Because of its ability to relax, the Nervous system is its major beneficiary. Magnesium promotes a feeling of calm, relaxation, helps deal with stress-related problems such as anxiety, insomnia, and many other problems.
12. Applying magnesium oil on the skin regularly is the quickest way to supplement magnesium in the body, due to the ability of the skin to absorb. Much of magnesium taken orally gets flushed out of the body, due to its laxative nature. Transdermally, it gets delivered body cells quickly and efficiently, and moreover – avoiding the risk of overdosing. With regular applications, you can supplement this mineral fairly quickly, and deal with magnesium deficiency without having to go through its multiple unpleasant and sometimes dangerous consequences.
There are many many other benefits of magnesium for the body, and it would take me a long time to even list them all, let alone expand on them. Take a look at my books where I describe how minerals – salts, muds and clays – help us heal. They are some of the best remedies for our joints. The resorts where people go to get help with arthritis are the most solid proof that they work.

Yes, magnesium in transdermal form should work well for joint pain! Thank you for introducing me to this. I take magnesium as a supplement with calcium and D.
Thank you for reading and commenting, much appreciated! I suggest trying the magnesium oil out when you have a chance 🙂
Best wishes,
Galina
I take magnesium, but had never heard of using it in oil form. I was reading this morning that Norma Kamali uses a calcium ointment on her skin – interesting to come across both of these in less than 12 hours.
Hi Lynda,
I have never heard about calcium oil – will need to research it. Magnesium oil is just a name for a concentrated magnesium chloride solution which feels like an oil on the skin. A very powerful remedy, and free of any side-effects which oral magnesium can have.
Best wishes,
Galina
Wow! I try to stay healthy, but didn’t know about how important this is! I’ll have to look into finding a good supplement.
